Songfish is a music theory study app run by business name and ABN in Australia. This policy explains what we collect when you use the app, the teacher dashboard and this website, and what we do with it.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address, the name you choose to show, and a password (stored only in a scrambled form we can't read).
- Your course: the theory grade you're studying, and the instruments and practical grades you tell us about.
- Your learning: the answers you give (which question, right or wrong, and when), lesson results, the days you studied, when review cards are due, and the starfish, seashells and aquarium animals you've collected.
- Reports you send: if you report a problem with a question, the question and what you wrote.
- Your time zone, so that "today" means your today for daily limits and streaks.
- Subscriptions: whether you have one, which plan, and when it renews. Payments are handled by Apple (in the app) or Stripe (for teachers and schools). We never see or store card numbers.
- School enquiries: the school and contact details entered in the enquiry form.
We don't collect your location, contacts, photos or microphone. The camera is used only to scan a class QR code, and nothing from it is stored. The app has no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking.
Who can see a student's information
- Teachers you link to. When a student joins a teacher's class with a class code, that teacher can see the student's name, grade, instruments, study streak and how accurate their answers are in each topic.
- Schools. If that teacher belongs to a school on Songfish, the other teachers and the owner of that school can see the same information.
- Us. Our support staff can see account and learning information when helping with a problem. Changes they make are logged.
A student can leave a class at any time from the Profile tab, which stops that teacher and school from seeing their progress.
Children
Songfish is used by children. How consent from a parent or guardian is obtained for younger users, and the minimum age, are still to be decided and written here.
Where it's kept and who helps us run it
- Supabase hosts our database and sign-in, in Sydney, Australia.
- Apple processes in-app subscriptions.
- Stripe processes payments from teachers and schools.
- Email provider sends account emails such as sign-up confirmations and password resets.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and the teacher dashboard.
We don't sell personal information, and we share it only with the services above, as needed to run Songfish, or if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Retention periods, and what happens to data when an account is closed, are still to be decided and written here.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing support@songfish.com.au. Deleting an account from inside the app is not built yet.
If you're not happy with how we've handled your information, contact us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app or by email before it takes effect.
